Meet Dee – Founder of The Slowdown

I grew up in a family where food was cooked from scratch every day. Many of us did. Food was simple, choices were limited – eating was uncomplicated! Unfortunately the modern food landscape is anything but simple for a lot of people. Juggling busy schedules, navigating constant temptations and being bombarded by endless ‘health’ information, many people are feeling more confused than ever, and sadly, less well than ever.

The words of Hippocrates, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food,” used to be the mainstay of how people fed themselves and their families, with an innate understanding of how food could heal or harm us. The modern world has pulled us away from this relationship with our own bodies. We’ve adopted a pace that serves industry but not humanity. We’ve allowed corporations to dictate what food is available to us and we’ve forgotten the simple truth: we have one body to live in for this entire adventure here on earth —it’s vital that we take care of it!

Choosing Health

That’s why I created The Slowdown. My mission is simple: to help build a healthier, happier world, one person at a time. When we nourish our bodies with love, kindness, and real, wholesome food, they repay us with energy, vitality, and longevity. Every bite we take, every sip we drink—it’s a choice. A choice to feed health or to feed disease.

If you’re ready to choose health, I’m here to help. Let’s slow down, simplify the journey, and make lasting changes that feel good… for life.

… and not forgetting joy

Just as much as I believe in nourishment, I also believe in joy. In saying yes to life. In embracing food as something to be celebrated—not feared.

That philosophy led me to explore the world of food in depth, from intensive training at both the Plant Academy London and the Food Future Institute Miami, to earning a Diploma in Vegan Cuisine at Melusine in the South of France. I’ve spent countless hours poring over cookbooks, testing recipes, and diving into the latest nutrition research—all in search of the most delicious ways to nourish our bodies. Because to me, eating healthily should never mean sacrificing flavour or pleasure. It should be dee-licious!

So, after almost 25 years working as a professional graphic designer I have now become a Certified Health & Nutrition Coach through study with the excellent International Institute of Nutrition & Health so I can put my passion for food and wellness into practice as a Health & Nutrition Coach.
